Durant les années 1930, Nusch Eluard a occupé une place centrale dans la vie et l'imaginaire du groupe surréaliste. Pourtant, elle nous apparaît aujourd'hui comme un corps sans voix, sans histoire. Sa postérité dans les dessins et les toiles de Picasso, les photographies de Man Ray, Dora Maar, Roland Penrose ou Lee Miller, mais aussi dans les poèmes de son mari Paul Eluard, nous a empêchés de prendre conscience de son effacement.
